Paramore's Zac Farro Shares How Matt Shultz Inspired His Latest Solo Album

Zac Farro is known to most as Paramore's drummer, but when he's not keeping rhythm for Hayley Williams and company, he's making music under the moniker Halfnoise. On Friday (October 4), his psych-rock band released its third album Natural Disguise and Farro sat down with Billboard to discuss what inspired his new collection of songs, and one of those inspirations was a newfound friendship with Cage The Elephant's Matt Shultz.

The two met at Bonnaroo in 2018, when Farro was working on Natural Disguise and Shultz was putting the finishing touches on Social Cues. "We hit it off, instant friends," Farro gushed, revealing they hung out and shared music after the festival. "He'd plug in these big Sonos [speakers] at his house and be like, 'Play me another one!' Okay cool, wanna hear one of ours? 'Hell yeah!'" These meetings and Shultz's encouragement helped Farro get through his moments of indecision. "It was this feeling of, oh cool I'm not crazy, this band's going through the same things, having good and bad days," he said.

As for Paramore, the band may be on hiatus right now but fear not, fans. Williams has divulged that she never sees the band breaking up.
