On Monday (August 26), Sum 41 shared a cryptic post on social media that has fans convinced Deryck Whibley is going to be the new singer of Linkin Park. The post simply says "Tune in Wednesday morning [August 28] for a Deryck Whibley announcement," but the timing of the message is what's interesting: it comes just days after Linkin Park shared a mysterious countdown on their website, and the clock appears to be counting down until Wednesday at 11:15am PST.

Rumors have been swirling about Linkin Park continuing with a new vocalist since Orgy's Jay Gordon mentioned that he heard the band would be returning with a female singer back in April. At the time, Evanescence's Amy Lee was thought to be the late Chester Bennington's successor, but she quickly debunked those rumors. Obviously Whibley is not a female, but could this theory be true? Fans sure think so, and made it clear in the Instagram comments.

"WHY IS THIS MATCHING WITH LINKIN PARK ANNOUNCEMENT" one wrote.

"100% joining linkin park" wrote another.

If the timing of these announcements doesn't just happen to be a coincidence, Whibley will still be busy with his current band until the beginning of next year. Sum 41 is currently on their farewell tour and plan to play their final show ever on January 30, 2025 in Toronto. See Sum 41's post below.
