Røde Microphones Founder Will Share Kurt Cobain's Guitar With The World

Over the weekend, Kurt Cobain's 1959 Martin D-18E acoustic guitar sold at auction for over $6 million! It's the most by far that's ever been paid for a guitar. But that's more than a guitar. That's the guitar that Kurt played during Nirvana's MTV Unplugged show. It's a priceless piece of musical history!

The new owner is Peter Freedman, the founder of Røde Microphones. But Freedman isn't going to keep Kurt's guitar for himself at his house. Peter is going to share the guitar with the world, as he plans to take it around for exhibits to help performing arts and artists.

He said, “When I heard that this iconic guitar was up for auction, I immediately knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure it and use it as a vehicle to spotlight the struggles that those in the performing arts are facing and have always faced.”

"The arts, and organizations that support the arts, are remarkably undervalued and underfunded by many governments around the world, considering their cultural and economic importance. I saw buying this guitar as an opportunity to not only share it with music fans, but to do so in a way that raises awareness for the struggles that musicians and artists face every day, and lobby governments for change.”

It's fantastic to see that Freedman is going to use Kurt's guitar to help in any way that he can. Bravo, Peter!
